Lansanity

Lansanity Coverage ? comment
Introduction, by Hoony.
Lansanity was the first CPM LAN competition, held in Portland, Oregon on July 15-16, 2000. The LAN was hosted at the Portland Conference Center. Attendance was free and open to the public thanks to the generous contribution of Speakeasy, but only registered attendees were allowed to bring their computers.

Over $2500 in cash and prizes were given away in the 1v1 Pro Mode Quake 3 tournament and the Sunday afternoon raffle. Many thanks to Speakeasy, NVIDIA, Logitech, and Ratpadz for all of the prizes. 64 gamers competed in the tournament for the first place prize of $200 and a GeForce 2 GTS.

Live coverage was provided on the front page of CHWD during the tournament by a|bastardson, for which I would like to say thank you and very well done (it's always a LOT of work to cover an event live on a wwebsite, especially over a 56Kbps modem).

Challenge.WORLD also provided FTP space for all Lansanity Demos. These are the first LAN competition CPM demos produced anywhere in the world and feature some very talented players.

Here is the coverage by Bastardson, as it appeared on CHWD.

a|pureluck Wins The Lansanity FINALS!!!
comment
It was unanimously agreed on by a|pureluck and Diehard-r3v to play the first round of matches on CPM3.

Diehard-r3v vs a|pureluck - Round 1
(double elim if necessary)
Game 1: a|pureluck defeated Diehard-r3v 13 to 10
Game 2: a|pureluck defeated Diehard-r3v 26 to 14

Excellent Demos!!

Diehard-r3v vs a|pureluck - Round 2
(double elim if necessary)
Game 1: a|pureluck defeated Diehard-r3v 24 to 23
Game 2: a|pureluck defeated Diehard-r3v 24 to 18

Note: There were network problems that resulted in a false start. We credited Diehard-r3v with those frags. The score at the end of the demos of Round 2 game 1 will show up as 24-20, but the adjusted score is actually 24-23.

Will update more later!

a|pureluck goes to the finals! comment
Semi-finals are overwith.

a|pureluck vs a|method
Game 1: a|pureluck defeated a|method 7 to 6
Game 2: a|pureluck defeated a|method 9 to 7

The finals are set to begin in a few minutes. The best of three between a|pureluck and Diehard-r3v. Good Job goes to Method, Pureluck and Diehard. You guys have produced some great games along the way.

a|pureluck or a|method to meet Diehard-r3v in the finals!! comment
After a brutal battle of cat and mouse, a|pureluck came out victorious against 2ur'Radar.

Next a|pureluck is up against a|method to determine who will represent the loser's bracket.

a|pureluck vs 2ur'Radar
Game 1: a|pureluck defeated 2ur'Radar 25 to 5
Game 2: a|pureluck defeated 2ur'Radar 13 to 6

Working on getting the rest of the semi-final demo's up on the ftp site now.

Semi-Finals comment
The Semi-Finals from the Winner's bracket consisted of Diehard-r3v and a|method. Two very close games. I highly recommend checking out the Semi-Finals Demos.

Diehard-r3v vs a|method
Game 1: Diehard-r3v defeated a|method 14 to 10
Game 2: Diehard-r3v defeated a|method 5 to 4

As I write this, we are waiting for the outcome of the 2ur'Radar vs a|pureluck match from the loser's bracket which will determine who will battle Diehard-r3v for the Lansanity title.

Lansanity: Round of 8 scores and more 1 comment
Here are the scores from the round of 8;

Diehard-r3v defeated 2ur'illicit 7 to 3
2ur'Radar defeated a|pureluck 24 to 8
[O]Exo defeated 2ur'Dr.Nick 20 to 11
a|method defeated a|revelation 16 to 7

as you can see by who is left in the winners bracket, there are going to be some very tight matches today. Right now we are getting the loser's bracket down to a couple of people. At which point we will commence with the winners bracket some more. We also move to the best 2 of 3 games now. Here are some more results from the loser's bracket;

XP-Magus defeated [LC]prO 28 to 1
a|code red defeated 2ur'Eclipse 26 to -2
a|toxic defeated ]km[belmakor 18 to 14
ubeR defeated dv8.ecc 14 to 2
a|pureluck defeated greenphreak 30 to 6
pI-Juzam defeated TalulA 11 to 1
^99VC^Chris defeated twoAM 18 to 3
2ur'illicit defeated ubeR 20 to 5
ZapZac defeated twoAM 10 to 3
a|code red defeated ^99VC^Chris 14 to 10
^99VC^ThaHeckla defeated a|toxic 18 to 4
a|revelation defeated pI.Juzam 22 to 9
XP-Magus defeated 2ur'illicit 11 to 7

And just to make sure I don't forget later on today as the reality of 2 hours of sleep in the last 30 hours sets in, we would like to thank the following people/company's for making lansanity a success:

SpeakEasy.Net for providing the venue and cash prizes. We would like to see more tourneys that don't require registration fees, but that cannot help without the backing of a good company like SpeakEasy.

A huge "Thanks Man!" goes out to Rhea for whipping up the ProMode OSP mix for us here at the tourney and for automating mundane tasks such as demo and screenshot gathering. Also to Hoony here at Challenge World for providing us with yet another place to post the news of the event, as well as some massive HD space in which to dump the demos.

nVidia, Logitech and RatPadz for providing quality prizes for the tourney and raffle.

anyhow, back with more in a bit...

Diehard-r3v defeated greenphreak 10 to 6

2ur'Dr.Nick defeated ^99VC^Chris 3 to 2

a|toxic defeated MoFo 21 to 5
[LC]Pro defeated BC|Krosys 16 to 13
BC|Mike defeated BC|Ender 21 to 11
Boot defeated [Oz]Chunk 22 to 11
dv8.ecc defeated 2ur'Hatchet 15 to 6

And this is it for the night. Where are we at with our slow dial-up connection and the demos? Well, it is 2:34am PDT, and the Round of 64 Demos are all uploaded. I am batch starting the round of 32 as I type this, so they should be appearing up over the next 2 hours. Once those are finished, I will upload the demos I have of the Loser's Bracket and the Round of 16.

With the guys who are left, we should have some very interesting matches after we start up again later today, around 10:30am PST.

scores from the round of 32 comment
Here are the scores I have so far from the round of 32.

a|pureluck defeated MoFo 40 to 0

a|codered defeated ZapZac 31 to 0
greenphreak defeated [LC]prO 27 to 1
]km[belmakor defeated ^99VC^TheHeckla 7 to 4
ubeR defeated TalulA 14 to 5
TalulA defeated teqsaq 9 to 8
2ur'Radar defeated Yak (score unknown)

how we ended up with 17 games in the round of 32 is beyond me... but I am too freakin' tired to straighten it out, now that I have been up for almost 21 hours straight.

even more scores from the round of 64 1 comment
well here it is, short and sweet:

twoAM defeated airhead 16 to 0
2ur'Eclipse defeated BC|Ebomb 51 to -7
teqsac defeated [DOPE]MikeStah 44 to 1
ZapZac defeated Tirog 30 to 1
MoFo defeated SW-Highlander by forfeit
a|toxic defeated [LC]BearFrog 40 to 2
dv8.ecc defeated r()()k 62 to 4
a|codered defeated MajorPain by forfeit
TalulA defeated BC|Uller 25 to 1

and that apparently wraps it up for the round of 64, at least from the demos and screenshots I have received from the servers. Due to technical difficulties, we may have missed one or two.

more scores from the round of 64 comment

scores so far in the round of 64 comment
scores so far for the round of 64 are as follows

a|pureluck defeated WORMburner.HOPw 65 to -4
[O]Exo defeated toiletgnome 63 to 1
2ur'Dr.Nick defeated Hatriq.HOPw 29 to -3
2ur'Radar defeated C45|Shank- 64 to -7

XP-Magus defeated supersat 42 to 1
a|revelation defeated Weezer.HOPw
Diehard-r3v defeated a|bastardson 23 to 0

And that is all I really have for you right now. I am in the process (a very slow one at that) of uploading these demos to the Challenge World Lansanity FTP. Hopefully everyone here will ease up on the web browsing and god knows what else they are trying to do over this wretched 56k connection. I zipped up the demos in a feeble attempt to make this go even faster.

For those of you wondering what it is like here... It is very hot. The air conditioner is broken or does not work. We have been working with the maintenance guy trying to get it working again, but he does not really seem knowledgable about it. Outside of that, the round of 64 is 3/4th's of the way finished. Will post the rest of the scores from this round when it finishes.

lansanity has begun! comment
After a long morning of stringing cable (electric and network) and getting things set up, Lansanity has officially begun.

The 3400 sq/ft conference room is packed from one end to the other with computers and gamers.

At this point, registration for the 1v1 tourney has pretty much been wrapped up. Due to the fact that only 64 people registered for the tourney, we have eliminated the FFA's entirely. So here is how the tourney will work:

First Round (Round of 64): Single Elimination 1v1
Second Round (Round of 32): Double Elimination 1v1

At this point, Citizen is working on the seeding. When I know more, I will post it.

Also, Hoony has been gracious enough to provide the event with FTP space. I will be uploading the demos from our wee dial-up connection as I get them from the server. So stay tuned if that is your thing. The demos can be found here.
